Two local area rafters managed to avoid serious injury yesterday after their raft deflated on the Beaton River, about five kilometers from their Copelan Beach launch point.

The RCMP says they used their cell phone to call 9-1-1 after being unable to find their way out of the area due to the onset of darkness.

That enabled police to obtain GPS coordinates of their location and they were located by police with the assistance of a nearby family, just prior to the deployment of a local search and rescue team.
