A Carbon Neutral Action Report has been released by the B.C. Oil and Gas Commission.
The first report ever done by the OGC highlights the ways the corporation attempted to limit its carbon footprint in 2009 and provides plans for the next two years.
Some of the actions outlined include replacing company vehicles with those that are more fuel efficient, incorporating video conferencing equipment in commission offices – which the report shows has already increased efficiency – and changing employee behaviours.
The report states that changing employee behaviours consists of encouraging employees to take alternate forms of transportation, such as carpooling, public transit, bicycling or walking, as well as reminding them to turn off the lights if they leave a room.
Other actions the report outlines include reducing overall office space per person and purchasing 30 per cent postâ€consumer recycled paper for its Victoria office and 100 per cent post-consumer recycled paper for its office in Fort St. John.
The majority of the steps the commission is taking to reduce its footprint are currently either in progress or in development.
