The unemployment rate in Northeastern BC remained steady.
The unemployment rate in our region is currently sitting at 7.5% an increase from May of 0.6%. That number is still lower than in June of 2009 when the unemployment rate in the Northeast was 7.7%.
Our region traditionally sees an increase in the unemployment rate during the summer months. In February and March of this year, the unemployment rate sat at the low point of 4.4%.
Victoria and the Island have the lowest rates in the province at 5.4% and 5.5% respectively.
The province as a whole saw a small increase to 7.8% from 7.5% in May.
BC still lags behind the rest of the Western provinces, Manitoba 5.3%, Saskatchewan 5.8% and Alberta 6.7%.
