**Update #2 – As of 7am there were still a handful of customers without power.  Most of the customers affected are North of Fort St. John.  There is one small outage in Fort St. John.  Hydro says power should be restored to those people by 8am.

**Update – As of 10pm, Hydro has restored power to over 4,000 customers.  There are still about 1,300 customers without power.  Those people should see power restored by 11:30pm or 1am.

A freak thunderstorm left a number of streets and basements flooded in Fort St. John.

A thunderstorm moved in from the south at around 5:30pm, Thursday. The storm featured heavy rain and hail. The storm caused several flash floods in the community. Kin Park, 93rd Ave, 94th Ave, 96th Ave, 95th Ave and the Totem Mall suffered the most damage.

Several homes also suffered water damage as the water made its way into basements in the Mathews Park area.

At the height of the storm, power was off in over 5,500 homes and businesses in the North Peace.  As of 9pm, there are only 3,600 people without power.  Most of the outages should be restored by 11pm or 1am.  For up to date info on the power outages, visit www.bchydro.com/outages

City Manager Dianne Hunter says the storm overloaded the storm sewer system and as the system caught up, the water subsided.  The Totem Mall parking lot is still flooded and mall staff have closed off access to the mall.

Meanwhile, a small house fire was reported in the area of 96th ave and 82nd street. The fire department says the fire was caused by a lighting strike either hitting the house or near by, and then a high current caused a small fire near the Electrical panel in the house.  Damage is minor and the fire was quickly put out.
