A Grande Prairie woman has died in police custody.
On July 5th, 2010, the Grande Prairie RCMP were called to a complaint of a disturbance on 95th avenue. The investigation determined that there was no disturbance, but the RCMP did arrest a 49 year-old female for public intoxication.
The woman was taken to the Grande Prairie detachment. At approximately 8 a.m. on July 6th, the woman went into medical distress. EMS immediately transported the female to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie. Later she was transported to Grey Nun’s Hospital in Edmonton where she died.
On July 8th, 2010 the RCMP in Grande Prairie were informed of the prisioners death and a post morten examination determined that she died of of natural causes due to underlying medical conditions. The RCMP have identified the victim as Louize Findlay of Grande Prairie.
The Alberta Serious Response Team (AISRT) will be overseeing the investigation.
