An incident that forced the closure of Highway 97 on Friday was not an accident, but a fire.
The Chetwynd RCMP say a semi-trailer that was carrying wood chips had a brake malfunction, causing one of its tires to catch fire at approximately 11 p.m.
Police say the fire then spread to the cargo and the road was shut down due to safety concerns.
The vehicle fire happened approximately 18 km east of Chetwynd and police say they had to wait until the fire had burned out before moving the vehicle off the road.
The road was open to a single lane at around 8 a.m. Saturday and was open in both directions as of about 3 p.m.
