The cause of the blowout at the Encana well bore northeast of Fort Nelson is still under investigation.
The fire began just after 5 a.m. Saturday at a well site approximately 100 km from the city.
Encana spokesperson Carol Howes says well control service equipment and crews were brought in over the weekend to begin handling the blaze.
The fire is still burning, but is currently contained to the well bore area and Fort Nelson fire crews and Encana personnel are at the scene.
Howes says the first step has been to remove any unnecessary equipment from the site. Currently there is one final piece of equipment that is in the process of being removed from the area.
She says that because the well site is in a remote area and there are specialized crews on scene, there is not too much concern about the fire spreading, however, the company is trying to work quickly to put it out.
Only one person sustained an injury to his arm and was treated at the site.
