An EnCana well has suffered a blowout about 100km northeast of Fort Nelson.

The fire happened during a drilling operation at about 5:40am Saturday morning.   Everyone was immediately evacuated and only one person suffered minor injuries.

A small amount of sweet gas was released as a result of the fire.   There are no residents near the well which is located about 30km south of Kotcho Lake.

The rig is still burning as EnCana is bringing in a well control service to help contain the fire.

At this time the cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by the Oil and Gas Commission and EnCana.

Energeticcity.ca will have more information as it becomes available.
