Jay Hill’s recent announcement, that he will not seek re-election in the next Federal Election, as the Prince George/Peace River MP, has apparently cost him his job, as Government House Leader.
A backbencher has been promoted, and a key minister has been moved to replace Mr. Hill, in a federal cabinet shuffle.
Vancouver Island M-P John Duncan is the country’s new Indian Affairs minister.
He takes over from Chuck Strahl, who replaces John Baird as Transport minister.
Mr. Baird is the new Government House Leader, taking over from Mr. Hill.
In a release from the Prime Minister, Harper made the following statement about Jay Hill “Finally, I just want to take this opportunity of thanking Jay for his service to his country over the past 17 years. Jay and I have been colleagues for a long time – since before we were elected, in fact. His faithful work, first on the back benches later on committees and variously as Chief Government Whip, Secretary of State and Government Leader in the House of Commons has been of immeasurable value to this party, this government and ultimately to Canada. Jay Hill will be missed, and on both sides of the House. He has been the ideal colleague and friend. We wish him and Leah well as they prepare to move on to new adventures.”
