There’s still a chance Fort St. John could finish the month by reaching or exceeding the August precipitation average.

The local airport recorded 11.5 millimeters, during the last three days of last week, but there was none yesterday.

There’s also none in today’s forecast, but there’s a good chance we’ll get some rain tomorrow afternoon and evening.

However, it will need to total 11.1 millimeters to match the August norm of 56.9, and officially we haven’t recorded that much in any one day since May 22nd, when we recieved 23.8.

So it remains quite likely August will be the third consecutive month of below average precipitation…but at 45.8 millimeters it’s already the best of the three.

July’s total was 38.1, and that’s less than half the average of 83.2.

June’s total was even worse, and at 14.3 millimeters represented only 20 percent of the 71.4 average.

It all adds up to another agricultural drought year, with the three month total to date at 98.2 millimeters, and only 46 percent of the 211.5 average.

Ironically, to add insult to injury, farmers now need sunny weather to finish taking off what crop there is to get, and after today the forecast calls for five straight days of some shower activity.
