Three Fort St. John athletes successfully completed the Subaru Ironman Canada on Sunday.
The grueling triathlon features a 3.8 km swim, followed by a 180 km bike, and then a full-marathon-distance 42.4 km run in Penticton, B.C.
Barb Polehoykie led the Fort St. John competitors to the finish line, finishing the race in a time of 12:25:32 (hours, minutes, seconds) – 27 minutes faster than her time from 2009.
After skipping the 2009 event, Gord Harris also returned to Penticton, finishing in a time of 13:52:30 – 16 minutes faster than his 2008 mark.
Floyd Polehoykie also successfully completed his second ironman, and shaved 14 minutes from his 2009 time by stopping the clock at 16:02:22.
Fort St. John native Janelle Morrison bested her 2009 time by 40 seconds, and ended up finishing in 8th place among females.
The overall race winner was Ukrainian Viktor Zyemtsev, who finished the race in a time of 8:32:28.
