The City of Fort St. John has been announced as a finalist for the Power Smart Excellence Awards.
The various awards are presented by BC Hydro and are given to businesses “for their leadership in and commitment to energy management conservation.”
The city is being recognized under the ‘Energy Manager and Sustainable Communities’ category for its potential use of alternative energy. Two options the City has been looking into are using solar hot water at City Hall and a process to redistribute any waste heat generated from the Enerplex.
However, the city is up against the Canfor Taylor Pulp which has projected it will save enough energy in a year to power more than 3,600 homes.
The winners in each of 15 categories will be announced at a ceremony on Oct. 25 in Vancouver.
