City upgrades aimed at pedestrians

A new hiking path and sidewalk are part of infrastructure upgrades in the City of Fort St. John.

City Council awarded tenders to two companies, Monday.

One of the tenders went to Interoute Construction Ltd. DBA-DGS Astro Paving Ltd. to upgrade the gravel hiking trail to a paved trail, with LED lights along the path through toboggan hill. The upgrades mean the path will be usable by both hikers and cyclists.

This upgrade is expected to cost $750,000 and is being funded by gas tax funds.

The other tender went to Hoban Equipment Ltd. to construct a sidewalk on the south side of 106 Avenue between 90 and 96 Streets. The sidewalk will also be lined with LED streetlights for better visibility.

This project is also expected to cost $750,000.
