On Monday, five local organizations and businesses in the city were provided with the declarations:

M&M Meat Shops asked for support for Sept. 16 to be a day to encourage families to eat dinner together as well as for the company to hold a fundraiser for colitis and Crohn’s disease. City Council declared that day as ‘National Family Dinner Night’.

The United Way asked for a week in October – its busiest fundraising month – for the City to show support for the organization’s work. Council proclaimed Oct. 7 to 13 as United Way Week.

The North Peace Cultural Society had Sept. 19 – 25 declared by Council as its artSpace Week. On Sept. 21 to 23, the organization will be holding classes, by donation, for residents to experience a specific class before having to sign up.

Council declared Oct. 3 to 9 as Fire Prevention Week. The week will include a parade, a barbecue and presentations to all elementary schools in the city. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with’.

September was declared Big Brothers Big Sisters month by Council. The month will be filled with awareness and recruitment campaigns held by the organization, culminating with its annual rooftop challenge and recruitment drive on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
