Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Minister Bill Bennett has announced new regulatory changes, which he hopes will move BC to the forefront of the petroleum and natural gas sector in North America.

The changes are effective today, with the formal implementation of the Oil and Gas Activities Act and Bennett concedes the consultation process was a delicate balancing act.

The Minister was also asked if he saw any possibility of the new rules improving the chances of diffusing the anti-oil patch hostilities behind the recent string of EnCana property bombings in the Dawson Creek area.

The new regulations are expected to be a key talking point, when Bennett and Premier Campbell attend the three-day Fort St. John Energy Conference scheduled to begin on Oct. 12.
