Drumming at the Fort St. John Association for Community Living Open House-Matthew Lago
The Fort St. John Association for Community Living held an open house as part of its 50th anniversary celebration on Friday.
The event was well attended as the room was packed. It was a meant to provide a celebration for the conclusion of ‘Community Living Month’ in the city.
There was drumming and music, as well as snacks for those who attended.
The Association provides support for adults with developmental disabilities. Special Projects Coordinator Cory Goodwin has spearheaded a drumming program to help pull together members of the community with those who use the Association. She wants the program to draw members from all parts of the community.
Goodwin says that drumming is stimulating both physically and emotionally, and that no one is disabled when they are drumming, but rather they are enabled.
The Association currently meets on Tuesday and Thursday’s at lunch for drumming. Goodwin is hoping that they can expand this to Sunday’s as well.
