Grade 3 student wins fire chief contest

One lucky student has been chosen as the winner of the Fort St. John ‘Fire Chief for the Day’ contest.

Logan Reid is a grade 3 student at CM Finch Elementary School who won the poster contest.

Students submitted posters reflecting this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme “Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with” based on what they learnt from a presentation about fire safety, says Fire Prevention Officer Greg Nicoll.

Nicoll says that students received points for all the fire prevention items they reflected in their posters and Reid won because he had various items including smoke alarms, two exits and a meeting place all outlined on his poster.

Reid will be taking over the Fire Chief’s position on Oct. 29, where he will be driven to school in a fire truck and escorted to his classroom.

At lunch time, he will, once again, be picked up in a fire truck and brought to the fire hall. He will have lunch with the fire chief, the mayor and various city councillors, along with the principal of his school and his teacher. He will also be given a tour of the fire department.

Nicoll says after Reid is finished school, he will be picked up in a fire truck and will be given a tour of the city to finish off the day.
