Morrison brothers race at speed skating oval

The speed skating oval is officially open at the Pomeroy Sport Centre and was celebrated by two of Fort St. John greatest athletes, Denny and Jay Morrison.

The Morrison brothers held the first race at the oval and were wildy cheered by the crowd. In a lighter moment, they raced against city councillors Dan Davies and Trevor Bollin, much to the delight of those in attendance. Somehow the councillors managed to fit in spandex, although some might argue that it was not a pretty sight.

While the races provided some light hearted moments for the crowd, the importance of the oval, and the facility as a whole, was not to be undermined. The appearance of Denny and Jay was an inspirtation to the young people in attendance and gives them hope to achieve the heights that the brothers have.

Jay Morrison says it always great to be back in their hometown and be an example for the city’s youth.

His brother Denny added that the oval really makes Fort St. John a leader when it comes to the sport of speed skating.

While the results of the race really are not important, Dan Davies did manage to beat Trevor Bollin to earn some bragging rights in city council.
