Pimm gets new job

The MLA for Peace River North has been awarded a newly created bureaucratic position following a cabinet shuffle in Victoria Monday.

Pat Pimm has been named as the parliamentary secretary for the Natural Gas Initiative to the Minister of Energy.

Pimm says the position will allow him to work directly with Energy Minister Bill Bennett and to ensure a stronger focus on natural gas resources. He says natural gas is a high priority for the region, especially as the industry continues to change and grow.

Pimm says with the new outlook includes more than 100 years worth of natural gas production which provides considerable revenue for the province. He adds that it’s important to work with the ministry to help market the gas.

Although Pimm says he admits the position will involve a learning curve, he hopes to be able to provide the ministry with personal knowledge of the industry. As well, he says he hopes to act as a middleman between the Ministry and those working in the industry.

The announcement about the newly created position also brought forth major changes to certain ministries, including a split of some of the Energy Minister’s portfolio. Part of the portfolio went towards a newly created Ministry of Natural Resource Operations.
