RCMP looking into 911 call to business

Dawson Creek RCMP are reminding the public to be conscientious if they receive a strange call from someone claiming to be a 911 Operator.

On Oct. 6, an employee at a business received a call from a person claiming to be a 911 Operator. The Operator asked the employee to leave the building to look into a 911 call that had allegedly been phoned in from a pay phone in a nearby parking lot.

Police say no one should leave their residence or business to look into a 911 call if he or she could potentially be put in danger.

They say anyone asked to investigate a 911 call that seems suspicious should take precautions such as asking to speak with a supervisor at the dispatch, hang up and call 911 to ensure the call was valid or call the local RCMP detachment to investigate.
