RCMP make arrest after robberies

The Fort St. John RCMP have arrested a male after a recent string of armed robberies.

A 38 year-old Fort St. John man was taken into police custody on Oct. 2, 2010. Police are recommending charges of Robbery for incidents at Veronica’s Closet, Econo Liquor and Rosco’s Pub.

The male will make his first court appearance Monday Oct. 4. The RCMP won’t release his name until after his first court appearance, but they have said he is known to police.

After the robbery at Econo Liquor, a photo released to the media, helped the RCMP make the arrest.

Previously the RCMP did not release information about the robbery at Rosco’s Pub and Liquor Store. According to a release on Oct. 3, a suspect entered the Pub and Liquor store during the early afternoon of Sep, 30.

The suspect wanted to purchase a six pack of beer. The suspect then demanded money from the till and an altercation ensured. The suspect fled the store with a quantity of cash and the beer. The employee was not injured in the altercation.

The robbery at Veronica’s Closet occurred on Sep. 27, and the robbery at Econo Liquor occurred on Sep. 30.

The Fort St. John RCMP Crime Reduction Unit is still investigating a robbery at Munchies Convenience Store on Sep. 25, 2010. The suspect produced a tire iron and made off with a quantity of cash. It is not know at this time if this is related to the other recent robberies. The suspect is described as male, 5’11” to 6’3” with a medium build, wearing a black toque and a disguise covering part of this face.
