Bantam Tier 2 Flyers Win Grande Prairie Tournament

Knights of Columbus Bantam Tier 2 Flyers had a successful weekend winning all four games. Coaches Dale Szoo and Randy Neher were pleased with the team’s effort and feel that the team is heading in the right direction.

The Flyers started the weekend off right with a win over Yellowknife. Lien Miller-Jeannotte led the way with five points, Aiden June with four assists and Alex Hartman picked up a hat trick. The Flyers dominated the game leading from start to finish. Lane Delfs was solid in net allowing only one goal. Kayne Shallow earned the player of the game.

On Saturday, the Flyers controlled the game against Hinton Extreme Hot Oil Services with Miller-Jeannotte picking up eight points, two goals and six assists and Dekker Wilkins scoring 4 times and adding an assist. Garat Whitford earned the win in net, after being called up from the Flyers B team. Dekker Wilkins was chosen player of the game.

Later that day, the Flyers again found success when they defeated Sexsmith. Ricky Bateman and Thomas Webster each scored four times while Miller-Jeannotte scored three times and added three assists. Lane Delfs was solid between the pipes until he was in the net and had to leave the game. Whitford took over and was able to handle the pressure. Ricky Bateman earned the player of the game.

In the final, Josh Lucas put the Flyers on the board first, when he found the net four minutes into the first frame from Brittany Bakstad’s pass. Half-way through the first Lucas set up Hartman to make it 2-0 which proved to be the winning goal.

In the second period Shallow was able to give the Flyers a little breathing room when he netted one to make it 3-0.

Five minutes into the third period Grande Prairie blasted their only goal past Delfs.
Miller-Jeannotte secured the win when he snapped one top shelf from Hartman and
Bakstad with less than two minutes remaining, making it a 4-1 final. Josh Lucas was the
player of the game for the Flyers.

The Knights of Columbus Bantam Flyers will be back in Grande Prairie next weekend for
the AA tournament.
