The District of Taylor Council met on Tuesday and discussed a number of issues on their agenda.
First up was a presentation by the Spirit of the Peace Powwow Committee which was handled by committee members Connie Greyeyes and Leanna Rhodes. The Committee wanted to thank the District for their support and highlight what they were offering for the next Powwow.
They also sought to ask council whether they could possibly use an outdoor venue as opposed to the Taylor Arena. They also wanted to gauge whether the Council was supportive in their hopes to eventually build an arbour in town to house the Powwow.
Council members say they are supportive and they would look into holding the Powwow outside. They also say they will look into the logistics of having an arbour in the community.
Also on the agenda was the issue of providing a fitness incentive to local volunteer firefighters. District staff in Taylor currently receive a $300 fitness benefit which can be used for local fitness programs. Council decided that they would match that for local firefighters if they meet certain attendance requirements.
Another matter discussed was the Peace Community Church which was seeking to request forgiveness for its monthly utilities bills. Council decided to provide a grant in aid to cover its minimum monthly usage, but that the church was to cover any cost above the minimum.
