Man dies after accident near Beaverlodge

Beaverlodge RCMP have confirmed that one person has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision Monday morning around 7 a.m.

A 69 year-old Hythe man was driving his pickup truck east along Highway 43 when he went towards the Emerson Trail intersection. He then swerved to avoid hitting a backhoe that was about to make a turn.

As the driver swerved, his side of the vehicle hit the backhoe and crossed in front of it before stopping at a light post.

The Fire Department had to remove the man from the pickup and he was taken to hospital where he later died.
