The Fort St. John Midget Petroleum Association Flyers travelled to Quesnel over the weekend to compete in their midget tournament and came away with a respectable two win and two loss record.
The Flyers played their first game against the Fairview Kings. The Flyers got to a slow start and were down 2-0. The Flyers battled back and managed to get a victory, winning 6-4. Next up for the Flyers was the host team. Quesnel held a 1-0 lead at the midway point of the game. The Flyers then scored 2 quick goals from Blair Karasiuk and Michael Bacso. That’s all the Flyers could manage though as they dropped the game 7-2.
Later that day the Flyers were back on the ice to face 100 Mile House Miler’s. The Flyers got into penalty trouble and once again fell behind. Shortly after the Flyers tied it up and later took the lead. Chad Roberts put the game away with a break-a-way goal. It was Robert’s first goal in 2 seasons. The Flyers finished the game on top winning 5-2. With 2 wins and 1 loss the Flyers finished regular play 5th out of 10 teams.
Sunday morning the Flyers battled for 5th and 6th place with ironically the same team they had beaten less than 24 hrs ago. The Miler’s jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Cayle Bell got a rebound and put it top corner. That’s as close as the Flyers could get as their downfall was getting into penalty trouble and dropped the game 6-2. Karasiuk lead the way in tournament points with 7, Bacso followed up with 6. Roberts, Bell and Tyrell Fenton finished the weekend with 3 points each. Ty Helgason and Ryan Bueckert split time between the pipes, each playing 2 games.
The Flyers are off for a weekend before they travel to Prince George to compete in another Midget Tournament.
