Senior Flyers pick up a player and win a pair this weekend

I feel like I am always starting the Flyers blog the same way. Sorry for not updating as often as I should. But with Light A Moose this past week I didn’t have a chance to get anything up before the Horse Lake game.

That is one beautiful rink. And the fans who showed up Friday night got to watch some pretty good hockey. The Cheifs have some depth issues to be sure and that was perhaps their undoing in the end but for 40 minutes they were able to keep the Flyers at bay. Horse Lake got one heck of a goaltending performance as well as Stephen was outstanding between the pipes. Fatigue though caught up to the home team and the Flyers took advantage.

Fort St John got excellent efforts out of Ian Munro and Mike Stutzel who teamed up for a couple goals. Stutzel joined the Flyers from Victoria after playing for Powell River in the Allan Cup in the spring. He had a cup of coffee in the NHL with the Coyotes and looks to be a strong player. He wanted to play for the Flyers as well. He contacted the club looking for a place to play some AAA hockey. It was my first chance to see Mitch Strang as well and I was pretty impressed with his hands. He set up a nice goal for Horst after showing good strength along the wall as well. And with no Troy Hunt I thought Bjorklund was solid in net.

The Flyers were at home Saturday night against Spirit River and took that game two to nothing. I missed the game as I was in GP with the Huskies so I don’t have too many details. I will try to get something up early next week to let those of you who missed the game know what happened.

We don’t have another Flyers broadcast on the Moose until the new year. Keep checking the blog though and I will do my very best to get more posts up in the coming weeks.
