Tough loss in Peace

The bus is just pulling out of the parking lot here in Peace River. I am going to have to make this quick as the wireless internet aircard doesn’t get much service on the road from here to home.

The Pups were solid today on the road despite the loss. In fact this was perhaps the best road game the Pups have played so far this year. The first period aside the Pups showed that they are right there with the second placed team in the league. They were also missing a couple of key forwards that could have helped turn things around.

The areas that need work? Face-offs. The Pups were better after the first but they hardly won a draw early on and that cost them control of the puck. The Navs had the puck and they had it for long stretches in the Pups zone. And really that first period was the difference 2-0 after one period and 4-2 after the game. So face-offs are an area the Huskies will have to address. They did get better as the game went on but the shots were 20-4 in the first period in favor of the Navs.

But for the most part a pretty good weekend. The Pups beat a good Dawson Creek team on home ice last night and showed tonight they can play with Peace River. Next up for the Pups will be the Wheelers in GP. That’s a game that is very important in terms of the standings. You can catch all the action live on the Moose Saturday Nov. 27th at 8:30. Pre-game show at 8:15.

The Awards:

Player of the Game: Travis McLean (I announced Brinkworth on the air but since then have had a chance to think and McLean is the obvious choice.)

Hard Worker: Brighton Campbell

Hard Hit: Connor Rose
