UNBC ranks first in undergraduate research

 

The University of Northern British Columbia has received a high honour.

For the first year ever, the university has ranked first in the undergraduate research category out of all Canadian universities in a 2010 national survey.

The survey, conducted by Research Infosource shows UNBC received a score of 74.4 in the undergraduate category, followed by Ryerson University and Trent University which are both located in Ontario.

According to the survey, the universities are ranked based on, “demonstrated superior achievement both in earning research income and in publishing research in leading scientific journals.”

Overall, UNBC received more than $17 million in funding over the 2009 fiscal year, putting it in 35th place against other universities across the country. The university moved up one ranking spot from 36th place in 2008.

The institution is also ranked fourth in the province after the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University.
