Wheat Board Election mix-up

A mix-up has led to 150 grain producers in the Alberta Peace getting the wrong ballots for Canadian Wheat Board director elections.

Election co-ordinator Ian Craven says about five per cent of ballots were affected in all districts, and impacted producers ended up on the wrong voters’ list, after a technical error at the election office.
He says new ballots were mailed out yesterday.

Meantime, in Ottawa the New Democrats have tabled a private member’s bill, which would bar MPs from using public money, in Wheat Board elections.

The NDP says Tory MPs used taxpayer cash, to promote certain candidates, in previous board elections.

It also claims that during the present election, unregistered groups have been issuing daily statements, opposing the board’s monopoly, on sales of western grain.
