Big Bam Close to Opening For Another Season

Big Bam Ski Hill is close becoming bigger and better than it’s been in 13 years.

The local ski hill was devastated in 1997 after a massive land slide destroyed the hill, which forced ownership to unfortunately shut it down. 13 years later, ownership is confident that the hill is close to being open and Ski Club President Greg Hammond claims that Mother Nature will play a major role as the natural production of snow is a crucial step in the return of the Big Bam Ski Hill.

According to Hammond, a base of at least 1 foot of natural snow is necessary in order to begin the opening process. After such a base is established, employees of the hill can begin the production of artificial snow to ensure safe and enjoyable conditions for the public.

Hammond believes that this base of natural snow is a key element in not only a pleasurable experience at the hill, but also is important for an extended season for riders to enjoy.

Once the hill is opened, riders will experience a brand new Big Bam. Changes to the hill include the addition of a second lift, which is currently in the process of being installed, new rentals available to the public, a new pro shop offering a variety of services to riders and a brand new snow making machine. The addition of this machine would not only benefit the hill itself, but the people riding it as well.

Hammond says that the hill is close to beginning another successful season and could not give more praise to the local workers and especially volunteers that worked feverishly to help make this a reality.

Nature seems to be on Big Bam’s side, as snow continues to fall on Fort St. John, patrons of the hill can only sit and wait in excitement for the sign on Big Bam Ski Hill to read “Open for Season”.
