Hilary Crowley official Green Party candidate

The Green Party of Canada has officially picked Hilary Crowley as the Green Party candidate for the Prince George-Peace River riding.

Crowley is no stranger to the area or this riding’s election process. She has run in the past four elections for the Green Party.

She says she knows the riding very well, having travelled throughout the region and attended every all candidates meeting in each city.

One of Crowley’s main focuses for her platform is the environment and, more specifically, to move the economy away from its dependence on fossil fuels to a more green-based economy.

Crowley says moving to this type of economy would provide a greater number of jobs for residents, especially if wind turbine manufacturing plants are brought to the region. Currently, turbines are imported from European countries.

One thing she says she is strongly against is the Northern Gateway project. She adds she will fight against the proposed twin pipeline that would run from near Edmonton, Alta. to a port in Kitimat B.C.

Crowley emigrated from England to Canada in 1970 and has lived in the Prince George area since 1971.

The riding has been a federal Conservative stronghold for several decades but Crowley says she believes now that Jay Hill has retired the number of Conservative votes will decrease and the Green Party’s will increase.

Since Jay Hill officially retired as the riding’s Member of Parliament, the race has been on to find candidates for each party running in the next election. Although no by-election date has been set, in addition to Crowley running for the Green Party, there have been six people that have already announced their candidacy for the Conservative nomination and Lois Boone will run for the NDP.
