The FSJ Knights of Columbus Bantam Tier 2 Flyers won both of their home games on Saturday. Some good news for the Flyers goalie, Sean Gjernes, is back after an injury six weeks ago but some bad news is Trystan Baxter was injured in the first period of the second game and will be out for an extended period of time.

The Flyers beat their rivals the Dawson Creek Canucks 5-3 in the first game of the day. The Canucks scored fifteen seconds into the game to show the Flyers they were there to play. It took the Flyers twelve minutes to find the back of the net when Josh Lucas snapped one home on a nice passing play with Kayne Shallow and Darin O’Hanley. The Canucks took the lead back when they scored with 40 seconds left in the first frame to make it 2-1.

The Flyers regrouped and scored three times in the first half of the second period on goals from Ricky Bateman and two from Lien Miller-Jeannotte with assists going to O’Hanley and Webster. The Canucks scored only once to make it 4-3 going into the final frame.

Webster scored from Chase Allam at the nine minute mark of the third to finish the scoring and make the final 5-3. Gjernes picked up the win in net for the Flyers.

In the afternoon game, the Flyers were able to start the scoring early when Webster snapped one in from Miller-Jeannotte and Gavin Gould five minutes into the first period. Miller-Jeannotte scored twice more one from Baxter and Jake Gardner and the second from Bateman and Baxter to make it 3-0.

Grande Prairie scored the lone goal with three minutes left in the second period to make it 3-1 after two frames.

In the third, Dekker Wilkins gave the Flyers a little breathing room when he ripped one in one minute in from Webster but GP battled back with two quick goals to make it 4-3. Webster scored two minutes later to make it 5-3 and then it was all Flyers. Wilkins scored his second from Gardner, Lucas scored from Gould and Bateman, and Gardner finished the scoring from Chase Allam making it an 8-3 final. Gjernes earned his second win of the day in net.

The Knights of Columbus Bantam AA Flyers are off to Prince George for a tournament next weekend and then they will have a home game on Saturday, Dec 18th at 1:15pm.
