Male arrested with replica handgun

The Fort St. John RCMP have arrested a man after a report of a male with a gun at the Totem Mall.

Shortly after 3:30pm on Wednesday, the RCMP responded to a call of a male with a gun in the Totem Mall parking lot. Mall staff had observed what appeared to be a hand gun in the males waist band and immediately contacted police.

A Fort St. John Municipal Traffic member was in the area and quickly located the suspect in the parking lot of Canadian Tire.

The RCMP member observed the suspect reach towards his waistband. The RCMP member drew his service pistol and issued verbal commands to the suspect. The suspect complied and was safely brought into custody without harm to himself or the officer.

A black replica handgun was seized from the male that closely resembled a 9mm pistol.

The male was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to public and theft under $5,000. The male remains in police custody on outstanding warrants and is scheduled to appear in Fort St. John Provincial court tomorrow.
