Builders of the Fort St. John Hospital and Residential Care project have reached a major milestone.

The group has completed the 15-month design stage which involved more than 150 clinical personnel working at the existing hospital and the North Peace Care Centre.

The design stage allowed staff, that will use both facilities, to help create the layout for each department.

Northern Health says the outside walls, windows and roof are intact on both the hospital and one of the two residential care buildings. They add that orders for equipment have been placed and large mechanical and electrical systems have also been installed.

The $279.9 million project is still on schedule to officially open in the summer of 2012.
