One arrested after police find cocaine

A 31 year-old man is facing numerous charges after Grande Prairie RCMP found cocaine in the vehicle he was driving.

Police say officers saw a vehicle moving at a high speed in the city at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They say when the officers followed the vehicle, the driver sped up and then entered a parking lot at which point he got out of the vehicle and tried to walk away.

One of the officers stopped the man and asked him for his driver’s licence and vehicle registration.

Police say the officers became suspicious after the man gave a name, but couldn’t give a correct address where he lived. When the officers tried to handcuff the man, he ran off and police caught him a short time later.

Officers searched the man’s vehicle and found cocaine.

The man is now facing one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of personation, one count of obstruction, one count of driving while licence is suspended or cancelled and one count of driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

He is set to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court Wednesday.
