A dragon boat has almost reached its desired destination of Fort St. John.

The Peace Region Dragon Boat Society expects the boat to arrive in early June. Fundraising for the boat is progressing successfully, although the organization still has a ways to go to reach the targeted amount of $10,000.

Officials from the Society say that having a dragon boat in Fort St. John will allow it to create a boating community and further its goals of creating an annual festival for the sport. The society also has aspirations of creating a youth dragon boat team.

The Society will be available to meet the public at this year’s High on Ice Festival. They will be selling cinnamon buns, coffee and hot chocolate on both Friday and Saturday to assist with its fundraising goals.
