Kindergarten registration begins

Kindergarten registration is underway for the 2011/2012 school year for all schools in the Peace River North area.

Any child who will be turning five by the end of December 2011 is eligible to enrol.

Parents are encouraged to register early and at the school closest to their home or to check with a particular school about its catchment area.

According to District officials, decisions on enrolment at a particular school will be made based on various factors and priority will be given to children that have older siblings at the same school or if the child is within the school’s catchment area. Children who are not within a school’s catchment area can still apply to enrol at a specific school, but priority will first be given to other applicants who are in the catchment area.

Children will also be given priority based on the date the application is submitted.

Parents can fill out an enrolment application at an elementary school in the district during regular school hours. They must bring the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency.

Officials are also reminding parents that if they want to register their child in French Immersion Kindergarten, registration is only available at École Central Elementary School of the Arts. They are asked to contact the school directly at 250-785-4511.

Anyone requiring further information is asked to contact the District’s Director of Instruction Dave Sloan at 250-262-6018.
