This weekend, Fort St. John will be hosting the provincial long-track speed skating competition.
The event will take place at the Pomeroy Sport Centre on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the meet will run from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Sunday, it will run from 7 until 10 a.m. Awards will be handed out after Sunday’s races.
The meet will include two different races. The first is a Mass Start race, which involves a large number of skaters that race at the same time. The length of the races will be between 100 and 2,400 metres.
The second style is called the Olympic Style, where a smaller number of competitors will race anywhere betwen 100 and 3,000 metres.
The event was originally scheduled to take place at an outdoor track in Dawson Creek, but was switched to Fort St. John due to the cold weather. However, Dawson Creek will still be considered the host club.
The competition will include skaters of all ages competing from Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Chetwynd, as well as from other skating clubs from across the province.
