However, the Industry Training Authority and the Transportation Career Development Association are offering an assessment program at NLC and at other locations across B.C. The assessment gives people who may have several years of experience but who never completed the formal Canadian apprenticeship program the opportunity to receive certification.

The certification process will allow individuals to complete a variety of assessments and if they pass, they can be awarded Red Seal certification.

Officials say that even if someone does not pass the assessment, the individual can still receive competencies for any parts passed and receive information on how to gain more experience in other areas of the field.

Anyone who is interested in taking the certification can go to tcda.ca/contentpage.aspx?id=Challengers-HDET to complete an application by Feb. 15 or email gshorland@tcda.ca for more information.
