Environment Canada numbers confirm, the Fort St. John area snowfall and precipitation totals in each of the first two months of this year have exceeded those of the same months last year.

It took just one centimeter of snow and one millimeter of rain on Friday, the first officially recorded precipitation of the month, to surpass the Feburary totals of 2010.

That’s because in this month last year the area received only point eight centimeters of snow and point eight millimeters of precipitation.

Last month the local airport recorded 59.1 centimeters of snow and 58.9 millimeters of precipitation, more than two and half times the of 23.4 and 23.2 in the same month of 2010.

So far this year, less than one week into February, the local precipitation total is 60.9 millimeters, 13 more than the January-February average.

Last year it was the 28th of April before the local area total reached 60 millimeters.
