Project Director Tom Sparrow says that despite certain challenges created by the area’s northern climate, the project partners are pleased with the progress made so far.

Sparrow says that the next step involves the transition of all staff and equipment into the new facility. Plans are also being considered for moving patients and long-term care residents from the current hospital to the new site.

Construction workers experienced a slight setback Wednesday, after a fire started at the site early this morning. Northern Health Spokesperson Eryn Collins says the damage was minimal and authorities are not aware of any significant damage or setbacks to the project.

Service is scheduled to begin at the new hospital and care centre in the summer of 2012.
