UPDATE #2 The school will reopen Wednesday morning for regular classes.
UPDATE Fort St. John Fire Chief Fred Burrows says the fire began in large, plywood recycle bin near the rear entrance of the school close to the gym and the daycare.
Burrows says when the first fire crew arrived at the scene there were visible flames and a lot of smoke that filled parts of the lower level of the school.
Although he says they do no know how the fire started exactly, it did begin near an entrance where people have smoked.
He adds that no one required medical attention.
A small fire at North Peace Secondary School forced the evacuation of students shortly after noon today.
School District Superintendent Larry Espe….
Students have been evacuated to Duncan Cran and Robert Ogilvie schools.
The school will be closed for the rest of the afternoon to allow the smoke to disperse. School officials have also announced the school will be closed Tuesday night and will not be available for community groups.
