Fort St. John RCMP say a 12 year-old boy was attempting to cross the Alaska Highway near Highway 29 when he was hit by a northbound SUV.

The boy was taken to hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.

Police say it does not seem that speed was a factor in the crash. However, they are reminding residents that it is illegal to drive all-terrain vehicles on public roads.
