Encana Corporation is acquiring a 30 per cent stake in the proposed liquefied natural gas export terminal near Kitimat, B.C.
The acquisition could potentially help Encana access Asia-Pacific markets overseas.
Encana officials say the company is attempting to push for the export of natural gas products to other continents.
The proposed Kitimat LNG export facility would have an estimated five million metric tons of liquefied natural gas capacity each year.
The project is primarily owned by Apache, with a 40 per cent interest, with Encana and EOG Resources Canada each owning a 30 per cent interest.
