This year, the theme for the week of March 6- 12 is “your prescription for a healthy spring break.” The week stresses what measures people can take in order to stay healthy while traveling on vacation.

Pharmacist Lori Bonertz says many times health precautions are overlooked when someone is preparing to travel. However, Bonertz says that it is important to notify a doctor and pharmacist in advance when someone is planning to travel, in order to receive proper medication or vaccinations. She says receiving necessary vaccinations will help people prevent contracting diseases like hepatitis A and B.

Bonertz also discussed a new program called “Medication Management” where a pharmacist, a doctor and the patient all discuss that patient’s medical history and determine how to provide him or her with the best treatment plan and medication schedule.

When stressing the importance of healthy travel, Bonertz says it is recommended to notify health authorities in advance so that proper medical precautions can be taken to ensure someone has a safe and healthy travel experience.
