UPDATE Sean Budnick case heading to trial

UPDATE Budnick’s trial is scheduled for Oct. 11 to 14.

Sean Budnick will now be heading to trial after pleading not guilty to all five charges against him.

Budnick appeared in Fort St. John court Wednesday morning via video link from Prince George for his arraignment hearing.

The defense elected to have the case proceed to trial, in front of a provincial court judge and without a jury.

Budnick’s lawyer also stated that he would like the opportunity to interview the complainant, since he said he feels her statement is the basis for the entire trial.

The crown has also said that during the trial it would like the opportunity to interview the 11 police officers involved in the case.

The trial date is expected to be scheduled on today (Wednesday) afternoon. Both the defense and Crown said they believe a trial would last approximately four days.

Budnick is charged with several criminal code offences related to the forcible confinement of a 45 year-old woman on Feb. 4. He is charged with attempted murder, unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and uttering threats.
