Community award winners announced

Several Fort St. John residents were honoured on Thursday night at the annual Community Awards.

Over 40 people were nominated for an award and hundreds turned out to honour the nominees. The evening included a presentation by Victor Kraatz and performances by the Watt School of Irish Dance and pianist Naomi Shore.

Mayor Bruce Lantz presented awards to four people.  Russell Eggelston and Northern Groove were presented with a Mayor’s Award of Excellence for his work promoting the local music scene. Rosolynn Kalb was recognized for her work with the Fort St. John SPCA.

The North Peace Cemetary Seekers were honoured for their work in building historical records in Fort St. John. The Mayor also recognized Ina Forest who recently won gold at the Paralympics in Vancouver for curling.

Athlete of the Year – Male – Jay Morrison
Athlete of the Year – Female – Jodi Busche
Cultural Diversity Award – Making a Difference Youth Group
Arts and Culture Person of the Year – Male – Tony Atkins
Arts and Culture Person of the Year – Female – Claire Temple
Volunteer Organization of the Year – NP Justice Society
Social Action and Justice Award – Kerri-Jo Fehr
Accessibility Award – Lori Slater
Environmental Benefactor of the Year – Sally Emory
Family Friendly Business Award – Fort St. John Links Golf Club
