UPDATE Northwest Alberta double fatality

The crash site is said to be near Range Road 230, on the undivided portion of the highway, going through the Sturgeon Lake Cree First Nation west of Valleyview.

Police say a pickup and a Semi-Tractor unit, were traveling West on the Highway, when the pickup is believed to have attempted a U-turn.

They add despite the efforts of the driver of the semi to avert a collision, the pickup was struck on the driver’s side, and both its occupants from the aforementioned First Nation died at the scene.

A detour has been set up around the crash site using Range Road 230, Township Road 700, and the 69 Road…but it is not for commercial vehicles.

Police say they will have to wait for the highway to reopen, due to spring road restrictions.

They add, further information will be released once it becomes available.
