It’s estimated that by 2019, over three-quarters of all jobs will require at least some post-secondary education.
It is with that in mind, that BC’S new three million dollar Targeted Skills Shortage Pilot Program is being initiated.
Here in Fort St. John, Employment Connections has been awarded the contract for the project, to help local business and non-profit organizations train current staff and to better meet the demands of a changing labor market.
The program targets four high growth sectors, Health Care and Social Assistance, Professional, Scientific & Technical Services, Manufacturing and, Transporation and Warehousing.
It’s expected to serve at least 1,200 low skilled employees across the province and up to $1,500 per employee and $7,500 per employer is available for tuition and to purchase books, training manuals, and other study materials.
