A section of the road between 15 and 20 metres long was washed away after about 80 mm of rain fell in the area. The Canadian Press spoke with Mike Lorimer of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and he says engineers are now deciding whether or not they should install a bridge over a large washout.
He says if crews decide to install the bridge, Highway 52 could reopen in a matter of days.
Lorimer also says the heavy rains also damaged some small side roads in the province's northeast, but workers are now fixing those problems.
